When I saw Tiger Woods triumph yet again for his 14th Major, I came away thinking about his competition, or should I say lack of? It is a shame that Tiger does not a better crop of players to test it really. They think that he does have some competition, I will show you that not all players do today compared to what had to contend with Jack Nicklaus and Ben Hogan. First, I want to say without having tons of Tiger is now better than anyone else, but we can say that if the competitionbetter it would definitely have an effect on his game and he would not have won as many majors? This is in the minds of interpretation, but I will point out the biggest difference between what a player had to compete and you can draw your own conclusions.
The easiest way to deny my little test was performed by periods. How many majors were won by players in a given time and who was this time the top players. This will help to see who was the top-hit players.Bobby Jones won 7 majors 1923 to 1930. I will always believe that if Jones did not hang up his spikes, he would record far ahead of Jack Nicklaus. My rationale is, Jones was only 28 years old when retired. He was just hitting his age peak. Nicklaus would win majors at 19 in a 25-year period, then, what would Jones have been able to do with another 17 years?
In Jones' era, there was Harry Vardon, the 7-majors won. Gene Sarazen won 7 and Walter Hagen won 11 majors. Under Bobby JonesTop 3 toughest players, we see a total of 25 majors. Also, remember that Jones won 7 in half of the years, Hagen was winning, 11 titles. Hagen lasted 16 years, but still a great player. Hagen and, of course, Hogan would have made golf clubs for them. Hogan was known as a brilliant club maker.
Ben Hogan won 9 majors from 1946 to 1953. Who will ever know what would have reached the most productive ball striker in the history of the PGA? They were thinking it, his legscrushed and he was told he never walk again! Hogan had some very dangerous opponents, who knew a thing or two about golf. Under the leadership of Sam Snead and Byron Nelson with 7 majors with 5 Nelson would play only 9 years, hit the right is for a farmhouse that was his dream. Bobby Locke won 4 majors and many consider him the greatest putter who ever lived. (Locke coined the phrase. "Drive for show but putt for dough") Here we have a total of 16 majors Verse Ben Hogan.
