One of the players I met when I was preparing for the tour was a man from Tennessee, Bobby G. I would not use his name because I do not have the permission. He is one of the few golfers ever to beat Jack Nicklaus in an 18-hole game. Jack actually wrote about it in one of his books.
I spoke with Bobby after a round of a tournament in Florida, his first year on the tour. He had not played particularly well that day and was complaining its implementation. During our conversation, it wasclear that Bobby did not play, his ability to so far on the tour. He felt his reaction was to blame. His solution was to count his three putts, and to date on all his three putts all the time.
Bobby lost his card after the first year or shortly thereafter. At the time I did not understand how Bobby could have lost his card. He was a very good player and had to beat Jack in a head-to-head match.
But, as I now know, was Bobby makes the same mistake I did many times and mademany of the players from almost every day.
What is a golfer's normal reaction after a round of golf, which are round good bad or indifferent? Even normal conversation about the shortcomings, the problem areas, the areas for improvement. It also has an appreciation for the good view and a focus on the problems in areas to improve it.
The truth is that what we focus on grows. This is one of the principles of life. If we focus on the garbage in our lives, we get more garbage. If we concentrate on the good in our lives, we get more good. It seems that "Count Your Blessings" thing.
If the player is focused on the three putts during his round, he will have another three putts the next time he plays golf. If the player is focused on the water, he has plenty of water for sanctions, bunker, he has a lot of sand shots, short haircuts, short haircuts.
I hated it when I hit a bad shot, a quick hook with my driver, a bad score on a hole or a bad round. After this experience, would, I like crazy with mind that the experience of practice, so that I would never allow that to happen again. All I did was make the same experience that more by focusing on what I thought when was the review process.
It is only at this time in my life that I know what Jack Nicklaus and his caddy, Angelo did, after a round of golf. The first and most important question was always: "What went right and what I have now well and what hasThey do well today? What we have today good? "Much time has been focused on what was spent on the right. The center of gravity.
The next question was almost in the positive: "What I would do differently, what would you do differently, what would we do differently?" Note that the word "wrong" is never a part of the question. There are no negative here. There is no focus on the negative, only the recognition of things that could be done differently.
If a golfer look at his mistakes, he willto repeat these mistakes. By focusing on the mistakes, he is to be easy to say "system" that is the goal, and he would like more of the same. The converse also applies. As the golfer look at his achievements, he will repeat his success. What we focus on grows.
Jack will always stand as one of the best that have ever played the game of golf. He was well over a long period of time and rarely had a bad round or a bad event.
Perhaps these ideas might help your golf game. Instead of saying:something in words to the Gulf just less than perfect part of your golf game, a long, total recall of the good parts of your game and you should be shooting for. Enjoy the good shots and good holes again and again. Realize the few areas that could be done differently than for a few seconds, then release them completely off.
The lousy seems to require our attention, all of it. You can do, or you can focus on what you done well. There were only about ten great golfers have in the past60-70 years. The rest were good with their flash goodness. I played with three of them, Nicklaus, Player and Watson. I have a long talk with Byron Nelson, Ben Hogan was once a practice in FL and spent some time with Sam Snead. I have never seen Bobby Jones. What do you think they focused on themselves? I can not imagine that they focused more on their shortcomings or their mistakes for a long time.
I would like to be successful in the Gulf and in all respects. What both of us aPleasure - the focus on what you did well on your successes. Just do notice what is different.
